Somerset Makes Christmas – Love Local & Handmade

HO HO HO!!! Yes it’s that time of year again… the twinkling lights are up, the now thankfully chilly air is filled with Crooner songs of sentiment accompanied by sleigh bells… And snow has fallen!

The festive cheer has arrived and whether you LOVE or despise Christmas (bah humbug),  I have a little guide up my sleeve to help take the pressure off choosing that perfect Christmas gift this year, without having to leave the comfort of your armchair!

Somerset Makes Christmas Catalogue

Somerset Makes Christmas 2017 is an incredibly inviting debut catalogue (both in print and online), perfectly designed and curated by the lovely lady bosses of ‘Chi Chi Moi’.

Celebrating 8 Somerset designer makers and artists, this fab new brochure offers ‘the very best of handmade gifting’… So there is now no need to panic buy on Christmas Eve… Phew!

Grab yourself a cuppa, perhaps your favourite tipple if you’re at home by the fire and get cosy. There is still time to place an order for something really special and I’d like to introduce you to a few of my faves nestled within the pages…

are a small collective of designers, environmentalists and out of the box thinkers. I love how they are combining nature with design to craft bespoke sustainable tech accessories that are then hand finished in the glorious city of Bath.

Taking inspiration from nature and technology they forge sustainable and recycled materials to provide durable, timeless products. Their range includes collections of covers for iPhones, iPads, laptops and a gorgeous variety of holdall bags.

Available in different wood veneer finishes including bamboo, this TEWA phone cover and Tamar Brushed Grey Backpack handmade from waxed canvas and reclaimed leather are definitely on my wish list!

Without spilling too many beans, I’ve already ordered something wonderful and personalised from Annah for a special couple dear to my heart!

Jo Lucksted Ceramics –

A fellow member of The Somerset Guild of Craftsmen, Jo handcrafts her quirky and unusual ceramics from her open studio / shop in the market town of Shepton Mallet.

Endearing sculptures inspired by mythology and decorative bowls feature amongst her work. I know a cheeky little ornament wouldn’t go a miss on my mantle piece this Christmas. Reckon it would have to be a couple of  Tuxedo Penguins… Oh and some Polar Bears for the tree!

To properly experience the joy of Jo’s creations a visit via appointment to her studio / shop is a must. A sneak peak at her Instagram feed certainly wets the appetite!
